NRA Basic Rifle/ Modern Sporting Rifle Emphasis
This course is at least 14 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
In addition the the Basic Rifle curriculum a special emphasis will be given to the modern sporting rifle (AR-15/AR-10).
For the range time a AR-15 and an AR-10 type rifle will be provided. The student is responsible for all range and ammo costs.
In addition to the base NRA class the student will learn the functional differences between the small frame and large frame AR platforms as well as how to use them and take advantage of the firearms modularity. A NRA certificate will be awarded upon completion.
